The All-State Collegiate Choir, will perform at First Presbyterian Church in Wausau on Friday, January 12th at 5:00 p.m. The chairperson is John Hughes.


The conductor of the 2018 Collegiate Choir is Sandra Snow, Director of Choral Activities at Michigan State University.

The WCDA Collegiate All-State Choir will consist of students representing two-year and four-year colleges and universities in Wisconsin whose directors are members of WCDA. Students need not be members.

Steps to consider in the nomination process:

  1. Identify students who are trustworthy, skilled musicians and demonstrate academic prowess, intrinsic motivation and focus in rehearsal.

  2. Speak with your students about All-State. Are there students in your choir who were part of All-State when they were in grade school or high school?

  3. Carefully follow the instructions and deadlines on the nomination forms.

NOMINATION: Each college’s director of choral activities may nominate up to 12 singers in SATB quartets. We appreciate your assistance in ensuring the continued success of the WCDA All-State Collegiate Choir by selecting your top singers for Quartet #1. Quartets #2 and #3 will be considered alternates, and will be accepted on a space-available basis. WCDA is grateful for your assistance in forming the choir by giving your professional and accurate rating of the singers’ abilities on the application form.

TO APPLY: As we are anticipating a great response, you are encouraged to email your materials early!

The application period is September 25 to October 20. Applications will not be accepted after October 20.

BY NOVEMBER 5: The All-State Choir Committee will send letters of acceptance via email.

UPON ACCEPTANCE: Directors will receive an email with attachments containing a registration form, schedule and other details about the choir.

BY THE END OF NOVEMBER: Return the registration form(s) and the non-refundable registration fee of $75 per student. The fee includes concert music, a professional recording download, and participation expenses. Meals and housing are NOT included. The Holiday Inn & Suites in Rothschild is offering a reduced rate for All-State Collegiate Choir participants.

PREPARATION: Students are expected to have the music fully prepared to ensure a musically satisfying experience for all. WCDA encourages each collegiate choir director to assist his/her students in this preparation. The All-State experience will begin in sectional rehearsals to ensure that students have arrived prepared for rehearsal with the All-State conductor. It has been the experience of previous WCDA All-State Collegiate Choir guest directors that careful preparation is crucial for the overall success of the All-State Collegiate experience.

REGISTRATION:The Collegiate All-State Choir will begin registration on Thursday, January 11, at the Universalist Unitarian Church in Wausau, from 8:30-9:00 a.m. Sectional rehearsals will immediately follow. The All-State Collegiate Choir will perform at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 12, at 5:00 p.m. WCDA is looking forward to this repeat opportunity for collegiate choral students to perform together and foster a community of young choral musicians who will continue Wisconsin’s strong choral tradition.
